Gold Coast Airport Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton felt “an intense sense of pride” as she carried the Queen’s Baton past the airport on day 99 of its journey around the world today.
The airport is in the midst of GC2018 arrivals action and Ms Charlton briefly put her duties on hold to step into the role of Batonbearer.
Ms Charlton said she was honoured to have run a leg of the Relay just 1km away from the Gold Coast Airport terminal.
“Running the baton past the airport made the experience all the more memorable,” she said.
“Being a Batonbearer is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it was an experience I will never forget. The GCA team came down to cheer me on, which made the experience even more special.”
The Queen’s Baton arrived in Australia on 24 December 2017 then travelled for 100 days across all states and territories, and arrived on the Gold Coast on 1 April 2018.
Gold Coast Airport is owned and operated by regional airport specialist Queensland Airports Limited. Gold Coast Airport is an Official Airport and Official Supplier of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
