Byron Writers Festival has announced a series of three live events, starting at Byron Theatre on Tuesday 17 November with Trent Dalton, the award-winning, bestselling author of Boy Swallows Universe, who returns with one of the most anticipated novels of 2020.

All Our Shimmering Skies is an epic odyssey of true love and grave danger, of darkness and light, of bones and blue skies. It is a love letter to Australia and an ode to the art of looking up.

“We’re thrilled to be returning to live events once again this November,” said Festival Director, Edwina Johnson. “To emerge from our chrysalis with one of Australia’s most-loved authors, Trent Dalton, will be a real treat for our audiences.”

Trent Dalton will be in conversation with local author Zacharey Jane. The event will also include a short performance from local musician Bobby Alu. Tickets are on sale now via byronwritersfestival.com/whats-on. For those unable to make it to the live event, it will be streamed on-demand for a limited time from the following day.

On Tuesday 1 December the Festival is delighted to be hosting Yuwaalaraay writer and founding member of Indigenous folk duo The Stiff Gins, Nardi Simpson. Nardi will be talking about her new book Song of the Crocodile with Bundjalung writer, editor and Byron Writers Festival board member Grace Lucas-Pennington at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall. Tickets will go on sale in November.

Then on Tuesday 8 December back at Byron Theatre, celebrated journalist Kerry O’Brien will host a conversation with author and academic Jenny Hocking on her revealing new book The Palace Letters: The Queen, the governor-general, and the plot to dismiss Gough Whitlam – a ground breaking account in which Hocking discloses the obstruction, intrigue and duplicity she faced during her 10-year campaign to expose the truth behind the dismissal. Tickets will go on sale in November.

Capacity for all events is strictly limited due to Covid restrictions so patrons are advised to book early to avoid disappointment. These are Covid safe events.

These projects are supported by The Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund.
