The winners of the Mullum Music Festival’s esteem Youth Mentorship Program have been announced. While the festival celebrates 10 years, this marks the 8th year for the Mentorship initiative with entries now coming from as far as Brisbane to Sydney.
Conceived by Festival Director and Director Glenn Wright, and coordinated by Tom Whitaker, the Youth Mentorship has had a real impact on developing career pathways in the music industry.
The YMP is about de mystifying the pathways to performance careers and the music industry, developing relationships between established and emerging artists that have proven enriching and beneficial for both the mentors and the mentees. The YMP is a unique and exciting initiative that has brought many young artists into the spotlight and enabled them to move forward with more insight into the realities of being a performing artist.
Many past participants have gone on to develop sustainable careers in the music industry, as well as some who have achieved international success.
Two of these are Merryn Jean, who has had hefty 30 million + views on youtube and 80 million + listens on Spotify of her song ‘Aloha’ which got into the top 20 of the French charts. She is currently living in France and performing throughout the EU.
Parcels are another success story, having moved to Berlin in 2016 they have been gaining momentum and are now selling out larger shows across Europe. They produced their song ‘Overnight’ with the help of Daft Punk who saw one of their performances and invited them into the studio. Having recently performed on the tv show Conan in USA, they are on their way to some fun times in America.
