With the second instalment for the season just days away, Sunday Safari is preparing for one of their most summer-tune laden parties for 2013. What better way to continue to welcome in the sunny days with a line-up which includes German electronic duo Digitalism, multi-instrumentalist Touch Sensitive and well-known Australian duo The Swiss.
After global success with their debut album ‘Idealism’, and many-a-party, Ismail Tuefekci and Jens Moelle decided to take cover to concentrate on crafting ‘I Love You Dude’ in their Hamburg studio. In late 2010 they covertly released their ‘Blitz’ EP which showcased the tip of the iceberg of what was to come for their following album. Enter ‘I Love You Dude’, their sophomore LP released June 2011, taking on more pop sensibility than previous work, Isi & Jens really hone in on this attribute through out the album, with it no more apparent than the feel good lead single ’2 Hearts’ & ‘Forrest Gump’, a track co-written by Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. Fast forward to 2013, and the duo have just released a brand new EP ‘Lift’, a taste of what the duo are capable of – writing within the confines of the dance floor in this instance, with the expanse and freedom of collaborating with other artists to try and see how far they could push their sound. ‘Lift’ features three EDM inspired tracks resulting from collaborations with The M Machine, Duda and M. Diamonds. Covering a vast landscape of dance, indie, pop and punk, Digitalism has become one of the key voices of Gen-Y’s music culture.
Also joining the evening’s cast is the not-so-new man in town Touch Sensitive also known as Michael (Mikey) Di Francesco, the bass player from Van She as well as a multi-instrumentalist, self-confessed synth-freak producer. Better known for his smooth dance tune ‘Pizza Guy’, Touch Sensitive is gearing up to be the most talked about name on everyone’s summer play list. With a 90s vibe, trademark satin jacket and slick 90210 hairdo, the man has been on an epic North American tour and is currently part of the 2013 Listen Up line-up, touring as we speak. His recent EP ‘Show Me The Pizza Guy’ and his NYC Boiler Room set alongside Chromeo and Holy Ghost is the reason why this gentleman won’t be stopping anytime soon.
And finally, another well-known name joining this Sunday Safari line-up is The Swiss, comprised of electronic legends Luke Million and Tony Mitolo (Empire of the Sun). After the recent success of their very disco ‘Elouisa’ EP, the two are preparing for the release of their next EP ‘Kiss to Kiss’ which is set to be released in the coming months. With influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa to Daft Punk Kraftwerk, The Swiss will surely leave a monumental musical mark on the punters this Safari.
Supporting this feel-good dance myriad is Gold Coast favourite Audun as well as Sunday Safari resident djs And Oh! & Easy P.
This Safari will be held at Byron Bay’s Beach Hotel on Sunday October 20th, starting from 8:00pm. Tickets onsale now at sundaysafari.com.au or the Beach Hotel bottle shop.
