Byron Writers Festival turns on fun for Festival Sunday
Exploding chickens (not real ones), stilt walkers, slam poetry, drawings that come to life before your eyes and the chance to meet your favourite authors and illustrators – Kids Big Day Out at Byron Writers Festival has got it all! New Festival partners The Farm Byron Bay have come on board to make the day even more fun. Get your hands dirty in the mini-garden pots with Farmer Johnson or get crafty and creative with Trudi from Farm Kids. Every Kids Big Day Out ticket includes a complimentary tour of The Farm Byron Bay!
Featured authors at Kids Big Day Out include Kate Forsyth (The Impossible Quest series), Anna Fienberg (Tashi series, Figaro and Rumba), Grinspoon’s Pat Davern (Alexander the Elephant in Zanzibar), Tristan Bancks (My Life series), Damon Young with Peter Carnavas (My Sister is a Superhero) and Nick Falk with Tony Flowers (Samurai vs Ninja).
“Byron Writers Festival is committed to nurturing young readers. Their Sunday fun-day is a major drawcard for families in the region, a chance to make favourite stories come alive and meet some of Australia’s most talented children’s writers,“ said Festival Director, Edwina Johnson.
Each author will enchant the audience for 30 minutes with the day’s events deftly MC’d by performance poet Phillip Wilcox, the current Australian Poetry Slam Champion. Don’t miss out on helping to create and illustrate our new StoryBoard bus (Byron Writers Festival new innovative travelling creative writing program visiting regional schools) or the chance to line up and meet the authors at the book signing tent.
Kids Big Day Out at Byron Writers Festival is held on Sunday 7 August from 8:30am to 3pm. Children (who must be accompanied by an adult at all times) can attend with a special discounted Youth Pass. There are headphones available for accompanying adults who wish to listen in to other sessions happening at the Festival on Sunday at the same time.
