The Byron Bay Film Festival is BACK!

Time to get off the couch and into the cinema

With cinemas reopening (with strong health and safety restrictions in place) The Byron Bay Film Festival is bringing you a very special edition of the festival this year.

Here’s a taste of what to expect when we roll out the red carpet in October.

A red carpet opening – films you won’t want to miss

Select screenings keeping you safe AND entertained following strict COVID guidelines

A competition to support independent filmmakers, with a committed jury of celebrities and industry leaders

Daily content posted on social media

An online state-of-the-art VR experience

Screening at Byron Bay Palace Cinemas and the Byron Theatre, the festival will run from October 23rd to November 1st and offer a stimulating array of world cinema that in other times would have been sweeping the festival circuit.

Film lovers are encouraged to leave the isolation of home and join in the communal experience of watching great stories unfold as they were meant to be seen… on the big screen.

To provide new opportunities for filmmakers this year we developed a competition celebrating the independent creative spirit of filmmaking, and the work of Australia’s next generation of film talent.

Judges include BBFF regular Jack Thompson, actor David Wenham, Emmy Award-winning artist & filmmaker Lynette Wallworth, Australia’s rising star Joel Jackson, surfing Royalty Layne Beachley, Bob Hurley and the first female Big Wave World Champion Paige Alms.

Whilst rubbing shoulders with stars is a restricted activity in COVID times, the festival will feature some very special guests, including acting legend Jack Thompson.

The films and new special events will be announced shortly with tickets on sale through BBFF and our venue partners. We encourage you to book with your friends so you can create your own BBFF bubble and share your experience.

There’s never been a more important time to support the arts, events and venues. We’re excited to build something very unique, safe and special for you and our filmmakers.
