Byron Writers Festival presents eminent British philosopher A. C. Grayling to discuss his latest book Who Owns the Moon?, calling for a global consensus to protect the resources of our solar system. With Mick O’Regan.
As Earth’s resources dwindle, the world’s superpowers and wealthiest corporations are turning their eyes to the stars for valuable raw materials. As this new Space Race begins, A.C. Grayling asks: who, if anyone, owns the moon, or other bodies in near space? And what do those superpowers and corporations owe to Planet Earth and its inhabitants as a whole?
In his fascinating book Who Owns the Moon?, A.C. Grayling calls for a new global consensus to curb territorial and commercial ambitions in space, exploring how the devastating precedents of ‘terra nullius’ make clear the need for treaties and conventions that protect planets’ resources and the interests of humanity as a whole.
Presented by Byron Writers Festival.
