Festival Director Candida Baker believes the performance is one of the Festival’s top picks: “Being able to enjoy Paul Kelly and other brilliant musicians such as Ange Taktats, Sean Sennett and Brian Cadd in such an intimate environment as the Hotel Great Northern will be an incredible musical experience.”

Baker designed the Festival program specifically to offer great breadth and depth when exploring the written word. “I wanted to make music an integral part of the program,” says Baker. “Some of the most beautifully written words can be found in music. The Festival will showcase writers who also use music as a means of expression.”

Earlier on Saturday at the Festival, David Leser will be in conversation with Paul Kelly in the session Music and memoir. “Paul’s book How to Make Gravy provides an intimate look into the life of this Australian music icon,” says Baker.

The musical line-up at the Festival includes what Baker calls “the music men” – Paul Kelly (How To Make Gravy), Brian Cadd (This Side of Things) and legendary music promoter, Michael Chugg (Hey, You in the Black T-Shirt). The Sunday music-focused session, Memoirs from the music men, features Michael Chugg and Brian Cadd talking about their incredible contributions to Australian music with legendary music critic Iain Shedden.

“The memoirs of these music legends make for fascinating reading,” says Baker. “We will also have the pleasure of hearing other musicians play in our dedicated performance tent.”
