“This is a show for anyone who wants to journey into the heart of songwriting.”

It’s been six years since Mikelangelo first performed the songs of Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen as part of his Classic Albums series in Melbourne. This early idea formed into a show that has since toured from Sydney to Townsville to Alice Springs to Edinburgh and beyond, clocking up a huge amount of shows and delighting fans around Australia and the world. But all good things must come to an end, and we are fortunate enough to announce that his final Cave-Waits-Cohen show will be right here, at the Brunswick Picture House on Sunday, 28 October.

A triumphant one-man tour de force, Mikelangelo takes on three of the great poets of popular music — Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. Traversing genres and decades, from the serious to the joyous to the sublime, with Cave’s hymn like ‘Into My Arms’, Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ and Wait’s foot stomping ‘Goin’ Out West’.

With masterful control, Mikelangelo brings together a brilliant collection of songs, stripping them back to reveal immense power and vulnerability, delivering each song as if you are hearing it for the first time and falling in love with the music all over again.

Acclaimed as the frontman of his group of 18 years, The Black Sea Gentlemen, and star of the Olivier-Award winning production “La Clique” (the co-creator and Creative Producer of which is Brunswick Picture House’s co-owner, Brett Haylock), Mikelangelo has toured the world from the Sydney Opera House to London’s West End, seducing audiences and critics with his original songs and his effortless showmanship.

Cave, Waits and Cohen stole his heart and soul as a young man, and Mikelangelo delivers a stirring homage to these men who set him on his musical path in a show filled with beauty, vitality and humour.
