Living Earth Festival September 1

The community is abuzz with the myriad activities planned for the 3rd annual event at the thriving Mullumbimby Community Gardens, on Sunday, September 1st, the auspicious first Day of Spring, and Father’s Day!  With dozens of workshops on innovative, sustainable technologies, food growing, preparing and sharing, experts such as Costa Georgidis and Jerry Colby-Williams in forums and demonstrations, especial workshops for kids, local crafts, circus, performance and so much more, it’s time to mark the date, and explore how one and all can participate in this exciting festival.
One of the grander new initiatives of the Living Earth Festival is the timely re-introduction of the Parade.  As past sponsors of the historical “Chincogan Fiesta”, the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Rural Fire Service and  the Byron Shire Council have again united to partner with the Mullumbimby Community Garden to present the ‘Living Community Parade’.
The re-named parade will commence at 10am and weave a colourful path from the heart of Mullumbimby to the Community Gardens.  Parade co-ordinator Jeanette Martin invites “community groups, schools, businesses and individual creative citizens to participate in the parade by creating any and all kinds of motorized or human-powered floats with music, dance, performance, costumes, banners and imaginative activities to electrify and unify our community.  We expect that the actual parade will journey from start to finish for about 45 minutes, and each participant will be offered a free position in our ‘Living Community Village” at the festival.  They’ll be able to set up an information stall to promote and fundraise for their organisation or school or business, using their float if they wish, to form a dramatic backdrop and unique environment for all to enjoy.”
