Polka Dot Productions is proud to welcome back to Byron Shire the much-loved Kristina Olsen (USA), launching her 13th album ‘Chemistry’, with longtime musical collaborator Peter Grayling, with this intimate show in Mullumbimby.
Kristina Olsen is one of the most entertaining performers on the international folk circuit. A superb multi-instrumentalist (acoustic guitar, steel-body slide guitar, saxophone, concertina, mandolin and piano) as well as an award-winning songwriter with a big bluesy voice, Kristina has audiences around the world coming back for more. Her songs range from sassy bottleneck blues, lilting ballads, swing jazz to raunch and roll (as well as her hilarious storytelling), thus the truly memorable live shows.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Haight-Asbury during the 1960’s, Kristina’s approach to music and life was formed by that environment of vital cultural expression, social activism and diverse musical influences.
With twelve recordings from 1992 to 2011, Olsen added ‘author’ to her mantle with the release of ‘They Paid Us in Tub Time” an e-book with new and back catalogue recordings embedded into the text. Launched at the Bali Writer’s Festival, ‘Tub Time’ was also featured on the Adelaide Fringe Festival program and toured through Victoria and New South Wales.
2014 sees the release of her thirteenth recording, ‘Chemistry’, collaborating with US guitarist, composer, arranger and producer, Pete Snell (Lyle Lovett’s Large Band).
Peter Grayling will lend his ‘cello magic’ to the launch of Kristina’s new CD and the reprise of past ‘audience favorite’ songs.
Local musician Andrew Morris (The Wilson Pickers & Bernard Fanning) will open the evening.
