“…Form does not differ from emptiness, emptiness does not differ from form. That which is form is emptiness, that which is emptiness, form. The same is true of feelings, perceptions, impulses, consciousness.” From The Heart Sutra of Gautam Buddha.
Inspired by the recent catastrophic flooding in the Northern Rivers, these paintings explore the omnipotent power of clouds. Clouds being nature’s ultimate expression of the emptiness of form.
‘Body of the Void’ is the first solo exhibition for Katherine Simmonds.

BIO
Katherine Simmonds is a local artist based in Byron Bay, NSW. She completed her undergraduate studies in fine art at UNSW Art and Design in Sydney and also attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London, UK.
Her work is influenced by her travels in India with a Zen Master, the climate crisis, and her emotional connection with nature. Through the mediums of oil painting and watercolours, she conveys a fluidity of existence and emptiness of form. The subject of her paintings departs from true representation towards abstraction, as the artist blends her inner emotional and spiritual world with the external natural world.
