Our beloved community Theatre is still on hold for all events, but we do have some exciting news that we cannot wait to share with you.
Some of you will know that the Byron Community Centre building on Jonson Street underwent some long-overdue refurbishment works last month. The workers added the final touches last week, and we are very proud to share the new look of the building with you!
The renovation work in more detail
Byron Theatre and Community Centre management worked together with local design agency Whitewood on a proposal to refurbish the facade of the building. The front facade and the north wall of the building are heritage listed features of the building, so we had to work in close consultation with Byron Shire Council on appropriate colour palettes for the project and structural decorative highlights.
Byron Shire Council approved the final proposal and the works have been funded by grants received from the NSW Government Public Reserves Management Fund and more recently from Byron Shire Council for specific heritage projects.
The renovation works included washing the building, new paint finishes on the external front of the building visible to Jonson St and the north wall, and replacing of the first-floor balustrade. The entry atrium area also received new paint finishes. Finally, decorative lattice, verandah brackets and new signage were added to the building.
The refurbishment gives the building a new lease of life, it puts the Byron Theatre in the spotlight and increases its visibility on Jonson St. We are still working on some dedicated, illuminated signage just for the theatre, so locals and tourists alike, will all know where we are!
We are in love with the new look of the building and hope that you are too!
As always, stay safe and healthy and see you back at the Theatre soon!
