The Falls Music and Arts Festival in Byron Bay was a fantastic way to spend the New Years break, with a diverse range of music, heaps of food, a great site and plenty of happy people.
Falls Festival definitely has its own unique vibe. It wasn’t uncommon during the day to see people lazing under a tree with friends, enjoying the music from a distance. Everyone was really laid back and genuinely having a great time, making the festival experience easier and all the more enjoyable.
Later in the evening, crowds would flock into the natural amphitheatre to see their favourite acts – lots of dancing ensued.
The natural amphitheatre was a highlight of the festival site. With more than enough space, everyone could find a comfortable spot to sit, stand or dance. The site worked very well overall. People could walk easily between the Valley Stage and the Forest Stage, and the ground wasn’t muddy at all, despite rainy conditions prior to the festival. We were lucky that it didn’t rain during the festival, however it was very, very hot and humid.
Music ranged from old school hip-hop, electronic, folk and everything in between. Additionally, there were a few smaller stages that hosted stand-up comedy and dance workshops. 2014/2015 saw the first Falls Festival Fiesta – a colourful parade of floats, dancers and performers. On New Year’s Eve, the festival transformed into a fancy dress Deep Sea Disco. We were never short of things to see!
Falls Festival was a great experience, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year! For further info, visit byron.fallsfestival.com.au
