Kids Big Day Out program at Byron Writers Festival.

Sunday is funday for kids 6-12yrs when the Kids Big Day Out program takes over a whole marquee at Byron Writers Festival.

Byron Writers Festival’s Kids Big Day Out is just around the corner and it’s pulling out all stops with five hours of non-stop book-loving action for all the family! With interactive author and illustration presentations and free drop-in workshops, it’s a day to be inspired, get creative and set imaginations on fire.

On Sunday 4 August one marquee at the main festival transforms into a giant storytelling arena with hosts Shep Huntly and Simi Genziuk. Meet local author Zanni Louise, sister-act duo Georgia and Zoë Norton Lodge, illustrator Tony Flowers, childhood fave Alison Lester, Bundjalung artist Bronwyn Bancroft, Australian Children’s Laureate Morris Gleitzman, poet Maxine Beneba Clarke, and best-selling fantasy-writers John Flanagan and Isobelle Carmody.

‘Meet the Author’ book signings will follow each session. Books will be on sale or bring along your childrens’ well-loved copies for their heroes to sign and make them even more special.

In addition, kids can create their own stories in the StoryBoard StorySpace; the famous StoryBoard bus and tipi village comes alive with free drop-in workshops for aspiring young writers. Activities include self portraits with a twist with Misa Alexander, Circus stories with Simi Genziuk, Story Safari with Tristan Bancks, and Absurd Illustrations with Tony Flowers.
The Kids Big Day Out Pass admits one child (6-12 years) and one accompanying adult to the Festival site on Sunday 4 August for $40. Additional children are $20 each, and pre-schoolers are free.
