3 Evenings of Ceremony, Celebration & Music

The Byron Spirit Festival evening events are so much more than a ‘concert’! Each program is crafted for immersion via ceremony, art, ritual, music, song and dance in an experience that resonates beyond the purely aesthetic or social. Connecting to our ancestral seeds is this year’s theme, and these wild nights will guide us to this wellspring of wisdom, identity and culture within.

FRIDAY: Indigenous welcome by followed by a Maori traditional response. Songbird and song preserver Peia (USA), joined by local talents Shai Shriki and Murray Kyle, will present her newest music and older favourites. The Australian debut of world touring trio Lulacruza (Argentina/Colombia) follows. They create ‘songs that sound as if a shaman, Manu Chao and your favorite dubstep DJ had an orgy’, according to their reviews!

SATURDAY: Commences with the Ancestral Ceremony with global cultures represented and celebrated. The one-man ignition – Elijah Ray (USA), brings his mind-blowing ‘soundtrack of awakening’ in his Australian debut, followed by Wild Marmalade’s mesmeric rhythms. Transportation to the never never follows with Si’s Dream Drone experience.

SUNDAY: Sydney kirtani Edo Kahn will share his new chants and songs, followed by the authentic qwaali big band Tahir & Kirtaniyas. The Closing Ceremony, Kala Shekinah’s Prayers for the Waters’ dance performance, and a final big sing with the inspiring Kevin James will bring the 4th Byron Spirit Festival to a memorable completion.
