I’ve been to the top of Mount Warning a few times - it’s a lot of fun. I’ve taken my two oldest children up, and now that the weather is cooler I’m going to take my 8 year old up.

Mt. Warning is about 60 kms from Byron Bay - about 1:15 hours drive.

The sign at the bottom says;

  • Duration : 4-5 hours
  • Degree of Difficulty : Strenuous - final climb requires a vertical rock scramble
  • Track Conditions : Steep & rocky in parts
  • Winter Warning : Not advisable to undertake walk after 12 noon, as darkness on return trip can lead to people becoming lost

So, it’s more or less a full days outing.

Here’s a video of my brother Marc doing the ‘rock scramble’ near the top.
