SAMPLE FOOD FESTIVAL workshops + events line-up for 2019

Sample Food Festival, the premier food event for Northern NSW, is proud to announce the workshops + events line-up taking place in the lead up to the annual event, held on Saturday 7th September at Bangalow Showgrounds in the Byron Bay hinterland.

In its 9th year, the line-up is bigger and better than ever before:

Sample Food Festival Launch Dinner, presented by Bangalow Hotel
Date: Saturday 31st August, 6.30pm
Location: Bangalow Hotel – Dining Room
Info: The Bangalow Hotel will be hosting a very special three course dinner with matching Lord Byron Distillery Cocktails to launch the 2019 Sample Food Festival. The Bangalow Hotel showcase local ingredients and suppliers where possible and the Sample Launch Dinner menu features some of this incredible local produce from festival sponsors Salumi Australia, Nimbin Valley Dairy, Australian Macadamias and beverages from Lord Byron Distillery and Mount Warning Mineral Water. Expect a night of fresh and flavoursome food, delicious cocktails and friendly fun service.

Sample 2019 Lunch – Chef’s Fire and Forage
Date: Friday 6th September, 12pm
Location: Bangalow A&I Hall
Info: The opening lunch on Friday 6 September will be catered for by a stellar line-up of chefs including Federico Zanellato (Lumi Dining), Francisco Smoje (Barrio), Jason Barratt (Paper Daisy) and Alastair Waddell (Harvest Newrybar). Always the hottest ticket in town, this year’s menu is a thoughtful curation of inventive dishes, reconnecting diners to the Northern Rivers’ mountains and seas. Key elements of each course will be foraged from the region and cooked, smoked, burnt or buried with fire. Guests will enjoy canapes and six courses with matching wines by ArtWine, brews by Stone & Wood and cider by Treehouse Cider.

Fab Ladies Wine Soiree with ArtWine
Date: Thursday 5th September, 6.30pm
Location: Barrio, Byron Bay

Foraging Tour & Fermentation Masterclass with Peter Hardwick

Info: Learn how to harvest and preserve the abundant wild ingredients in your own backyard in a sustainable way with pioneering forager and wild food researcher of 40 years Peter Hardwick. With the ever increasingly popularity in wild and native foods and the important social movement to limit food waste there is no better time to learn about the abundant and overlooked food-source in your neighbourhood. This is a unique 40 minute foraging walk along followed by a 30 minute masterclass on fermentation and pickling.
