David Ades and Friends at the Bangalow Bowling Club June 13

Courtesy of the Melbourne International Jazz festival and the Blue Birdy are proud to present David Ades and friends, featuring Tony Malaby (NYC, USA) on Tenor Saxophone, Cameron Undy, Bass (Sydney) Simon Barker, Drums (Sydney) Fresh from performances at the Melbourne International Jazz festival the band is on a mini tour of the East Coast that will finish in David’s beloved home town of Bangalow. They will be playing music from the album ” A Glorious Uncertainty” released in 2012 and winner of two 2013 prestigious Australian Jazz Bell awards.

Tony Malaby is David Ades’s favourite living saxophonist in the world. Tony Malaby is a powerhouse improvisor on the Tenor saxophone. Based in NYC he has been a member of highly notable jazz ensembles Charlie Haden’s Liberation Orchestra, Paul Motian’s Electric Bebop Band, Mark Helias’ Open Loose, Fred Hersch’s quintet and Walt Whitman project among others.His debut album “Sabino”(Arabesque) made the NY Times and Philadelphia City Paper’s top ten jazz lists for 2000.

Dave Ades is an equally engaging and explosive player on the Alto saxophone and has been collaborating with Malaby for over ten years across the hemispheres. Ades’ own album “A Glorious Uncertainty” featured Malaby with the famed ‘Open Loose’ Trio and has received glowing reviews around the globe and two 2013 National jazz Bell awards

Cameron Undy is an amazing bass player, composer and presenter of world class jazz from around the world at the famous 505 club in Sydney. He has played with just about every one on the Australian jazz scene as well as many International artist’s and is the leader of the group “20th Century Dog” he is also a prolific recording artist .

Simon Barker is one of the most remarkable drummers on the planet. His work has crossed many boundary’s , he has extended the language of modern drumming and he is also one of the most transcendental musicians in the world today. He was featured in the award winning documentary “Intangible Asset No 82” and has played with some of the most innovative musicians both nationally and internationally.
