StoryBoard is an innovative new program from Byron Writers Festival, StoryBoard is a free travelling creative writing workshop bringing leading authors and illustrators into regional schools, with the aim of producing next generation readers and writers. Equipping young people with the tools and inspiration to create stories, StoryBoard fosters creativity and literacy and helps move kids out of disadvantage.
In 2017, StoryBoard will travel to over 100 schools throughout the Northern Rivers in a customised bus carrying the Storyteller-in-Chief and volunteer tutors. The StoryBoard bus – which will be a work of art in itself– and our workshop approach will inspire children, teachers and schools across the region.
The StoryBoard team will hit the streets this month with Term 1 already fully booked. These two weeks are jam packed with award winning author Tristan Bancks running creative writing bookmaking workshops. Tristan has just launched his new book My Life and Other Weaponised Muffins.
Are YOU or do you know an inspired young writer? Do you enjoy creating characters?
StoryBoard masterclasses will be run in addition to annual school visits to give students access to develop their creative writing skills. Last night StoryBoard ran its first masterclass with film director and author Tristan Bancks and Byron Writers Festival staff member and film producer Coralie Tapper. The afternoon saw a full table of enthusiastic teenagers gathered at Lismore City Library to ‘tell stories like a filmmaker’.
StoryBoard masterclasses are hosted monthly by Lismore City and Ballina Libraries and are available to young writers aged 10- 18yrs.
