Byron Arts Classic : Doorway into the Creative Arts

Roslyn Swadling was the winner of the Gallery Exhibition Award at the BAC 2012. She is convinced that that the prize “opened the door for her.” The opportunity to display her semi-abstract naturalist painting at the Barebones Art Space in Bangalow has boosted sales of her paintings, exceeding her expectations. She has also been invited to hold a solo exhibition at the prestigious Polson Art Gallery at Mariners Cove on the Gold Coast. The award has given Roslyn new confidence in doing what she loves to do, every single day, which is going into her studio to paintvibrant images of its rainforest environment.

We are very pleased to announce that the Gallery Representation Award for 2013 is being sponsored by The Channon Gallery, which specialises in fine art in the Northern Rivers region. At 16 months old, it is a relatively young gallery, but one that is “keenly aware that it exists as part of the art community, supporting artists, government initiatives in the arts, as well as other commercial and non-commercial galleries.”

Entries are now open for the BAC 2013, with around $9000 in prize money being offered across a range of prizes. This will be the fourth year of its running in its present form at the Byron Bay Community Centre. It is a great opportunity for emerging and established artists to showcase their work in the four categories: Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Works on Paper from the Byron, Tweed, Lismore and Ballina Shires. The January 2013 event is shaping up to be another successful successful, increasing entries to over 300, and attracts visitors from far and wide.

Entries must be the original works of the entrant and completed with the last 12 months. For access to more detailed information, an entry form or the on-line registration process visit the website at www.byronartsclassic.com.au.
