A Peaceful Place : Brunswick Heads Community Event

Brunswick Heads hosts innagural community event, A Peaceful Place. Sunday 20th December 2015, 3pm – 9pm at the Brunswick Heads River Soundshell Park,  Gathering locals to celebrate with song – music – community – peace.

Three short weeks ago Brunswick Heads lost a dear friend, a spirited personality, a respected arts professional: Tony Llord.

Tony succumbed to a sudden stroke whilst swimming in the Brunswick River – a favourite spot of his – and the location of an event he was in the middle of creating.

The event was called A Peaceful Place: A secular Christmas Carols of sorts – an impassioned vision of Tony’s to bring the community together with music, celebrating life, love, peace and friendship in one of the region’s most beautiful locations.

After considered thought, Tony’s daughter, Aria, and her mother Jodi, have decided to honour Tony’s passion and proceed with the event in celebration of his life.

The event, run entirely by volunteers and by donations of products and services from the community, will include a diverse program of musical performances from around the Northern Rivers region, including vocal groups, instrumentalists, contemporary performances, as well as live art, short film screenings, and more.

“I envision a day full of wonderful music, love, laughter, joy and unity between all who come to perform, dance, sing along and enjoy the lovely scenery and sounds. This is how Dad painted the picture of A Peaceful Place for me when the idea first began to blossom. A beautiful afternoon for people of all ages/religions/walks of life to celebrate the greatest gifts in this festive time – life and love! I’m excited that we are fulfilling my Dad’s latest and last project which is entirely a representation of his big-hearted, fun-loving spirit… I’m hoping there will be many who come and help this vision come to life through just being there in support of the array of musicians or simply the idea,” said Aria, 17, of the event.

Jodi discussed the intention behind Tony’s event.

“Tone was always looking for ways to create and maintain “a peaceful place” both internally and in his environment. He was passionate about the generosity and compassion he saw in his community…he believed music has the potential to move and connect people to themselves and each other,” she explained.

The fusion of these three inspirations brought about A Peaceful Place. The team bringing it to life share Tony’s intention: that it not be about any one person or idea, but what the community can generate out of love, gratitude and acceptance in a truly harmonious, inclusive, family friendly environment.

Jodi expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community for Tony and the event. “Thank you in advance, to the beautiful people who have put their hands up to perform or volunteer! There is still room for contribution so feel free to get in touch and be put on the programme for the day.”

A Peaceful Place will run from 3pm – 9pm on Sunday 20th December – rain hail or shine! Bring a picnic blanket, your swimsuits, and your singing voice, and come and celebrate community through the peaceful power of song.

Performers include Remy Weir-Sapir, Kate Stewart, Aria Llord, Francis Atkins, Bodhi Scott-Jones, and Gian-Luigi Giacalone, with many more to be announced.
