That Bluesfest feeling is already starting to heat up in and around Byron as we gear up for the 30th anniversary year of the original blues and roots festival we call Bluesfest… What an impressive line-up we have to share with you all and there is no exception to this when it comes to the Bluesfest Busking Comp, the standard of this competition is high, the talent inspiring! Over 64 emerging artists of all ages are excitedly finetuning their songs for the opportunity to perform in front of a Bluesfest audience at the 2019 festival.
The Bluesfest Busking Comp is the, off the record, start to Bluesfest, kicking off the weekend before with the Grommet Heats, held at the Byron Youth Centre, Saturday 13 April from 9am. This year the grommet comp will be held in conjunction with the Byron Flea market, a fabulous initiative focusing on youth arts.
Following on from the Grommets, the Open Semi-finals event takes over the Byron Bay Brewery (Bluesfest’s official Beer sponsor) on Sunday, 14 & Monday, 15 April, 5pm daily. It’s like a mini festival in itself and certainly worth a look to kick that Bluesfest vibe into full swing.
The finale will take place at the iconic top pub in Byron, The Beach Hotel on Wednesday evening , 17 April from 5pm, where nine of the best will take to the stage for the Bluesfest Busking finals show-down. It’s going to be one hell of an evening with a special guest closing the show, a previous Bluesfest busking finalist, currently No-1 on the musical charts and selling out shows everywhere!!!
Come along and show your support for these up-and-coming artists, the next round of Australian musical superstar’s, all captured from a little town in the heart of NSW.
